If it doesn't exist in the way you imagine it, just go ahead and create it. A basic rule of thumb for an unfrustrated life. Don't worry about whether you "know how" or have "talent"- go ahead and dare to dabble. For it is the dabblers and dilettantes, the tinkerers and innovators, the "I-wonder-what-would-happen"-ers to whom we owe a great deal that is beautiful and fresh in this world.
Today we continued our tormented study of Native American history. I'm sorry- there is just no honest way to explore these narratives in a way that casts a positive light on the actions of our nation's history. We read The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie Di Paolo and then played around with some painting inspired by Adventures in Mommydom.
As the munchkins painted, I doodled a handout that included all those neat little details about the botany of the bluebonnet as well as the legend of the bluebonnet. Then I scanned it and printed a copy for each small person. You can download your own 2-page version below.
